EXPLORE MEXICO
How would you describe your ideal Hummer excursion? For me it would have to include plenty of off roading down the road less traveled, coupled with majestic natural scenery. Throw in some wildlife and I’ll be in heaven. Well, dust off your passport and head down to the southern tip of North America, because all this and more await you in Mexico. Mexico has one of the richest biodiversities in the world, full of wonderful flora, rock formations and beautiful water falls. (Like the picturesque cascade on our cover located near Zacatlan, Puebla) Mexico’s countryside offers plenty of unpaved tracks, rock crawling, dune bashing and pristine scenery for your next Hummer adventure. Whether you want to push the envelope and really flex your suspension or just take in some less extreme adventures taking in the wondrous views.

ADVENTURE CHALLENGE
On June 9th, a select group of Hummer owners gathered in the middle of the country. They came together to settle something. They came to battle for bragging rights in a competition that would test driver and navigator skill, as well as the versatility and durability of vehicles and people alike. They came to compete in the 2007 Hummer Adventure Challenge.

STOP! THESE ARE THE BRAKES
Let’s face it. Hummers are heavy. And stopping our colossal vehicles requires an efficient braking system. Although the stock system serves its purpose you must remember that it was designed and tested to perform under normal driving conditions. Manufacturers do not take into account all the various added aftermarket accessories that directly affect your vehicles stopping power like larger wheels, extra weight from accessories like roof racks, winches, and steel bumpers. Not to mention any extra towing you do, especially if you live in a hilly region where brakes are really put to the test. These common upgrades, along with other performance enhancements can quickly overpower your stock system, not to mention the horsepower add-ons like superchargers that really put your system under pressure, especially if you have a lead foot.

USED H1s The 2006 model year was the last for the Hummer H1. In May of 2006 the president of AMG said "Unfortunately, in recent years, the production and actual retail sale of the Hummer H1 have fallen to a level between 200 and 300 vehicles per year. At that level of sales, the GM dealers tell us that with a vehicle that costs $145-150,000 each, it just becomes too difficult to find customers willing to pay. “Unless AMG and GM change their minds, the only way you will get an H1 will be to purchase a used one.

View From Washington
Hummer hate is hot. An H2 SUT in DC was vandalized by thugs who broke every window and slashed every tire. The criminals, who reside at the intersection of idiocy and hate, also scratched the “for the environ” into the body. The most disturbing aspect of the crime was the seeming tolerance for it shown by the press and some neighbors. The headline in the Washington Post was “Hummer Owner Gets Angry Message.” What message does the paper think was delivered to the owner? That hoodlums roam the streets? That if a Hummer owner’s personal choices can result in their becoming a crime victim, everyone’s choices are endangered? That Post writers and editors find violent crime acceptable as long as they don’t like the victim’s choice of vehicles?

Future Battlefield
The Humvee still remains a highly maneuverable vehicle, yet continues to take on increased criticism. Unfortunately it was not designed for tactical combat, especially with its flat bottom and vulnerable wheeled designs. Wheeled vehicles are not fit for hostile engagements, nor where they meant to see combat. The wheeled divisions are intended to primarily cover the rear and provide the logistics to the combat divisions. But the Iraq War has proved to be a non-linear war, meaning there is no front line, leaving ALL vehicles vulnerable to attack. Many argue that today’s battlefield warrants all vehicles to be armor resistant track equipped in order to decrease casualties.

Off Roadin:PRE RUNNING
In the weeks leading up to the 2007 Hummer Adventure Challenge, you would have been hard pressed to get in touch with some of the guys that would normally be at the Lynch Hummer dealership on a daily basis. That’s because they weren’t at the showroom, they weren’t out on the lot, and they weren’t out back in the garage. They were out on the roads and trails of Missouri doing the work that needs to be done to ensure a successful off-road event. They were sorting out the logistics, coordinating the meeting places and accommodations, and perhaps most importantly, they were out pre-running the trails.
